The Inspiration of Artists

Many K-Type fonts are created in the style of inspirational artists, and every homage involves some serious soul-searching to interpret and sympathetically extend the look and feel of the original.
Our recent Roy Lichtenstein font is an attempt to capture the rough neatness of the painted lettering within the speech bubbles, thought balloons and narrative boxes of Roy’s Pop Art canvases. The Ivan Zemtsov font, which includes a full Cyrillic character set, is based on the pen lettering that the mailartist draws on the envelopes of his correspondence. The writer Christopher Stocks might not consider himself an artist, but his calligraphic style inspired K-Type to create Stockscript based on the lettering on his Christmas card envelope.
Some K-Type fonts are complete character sets built up from very few observable letters – Norton was created from just four characters in the motorcycle logo, International Times from just two logotype letters, and Pentangle from the eight characters used for the title of the 1967 folk/jazz/rock album.
